There have been some notable sightings of interesting or rare birds on our waters, particularly at Marsh Farm and Johnsons; Raptors include Buzzard, Red Kite, Osprey, Peregrine Falcon, Hobby, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel. A Curlew flew over Harris Lake and a Bittern was seen and photographed on the north bank of Johnsons.
Also on that water, Common Sandpiper, Goosander, Pochard, Wigeon, Gadwall, Teal, Shoveller Duck and Slavonian Grebe were seen. Black Headed Gull nested on the Johnsons island, producing 5 young, and Common Tern produced 10 progeny on the island and the two nesting platforms (Johnsons and Harris.) Egyptian Geese and Little Grebes also bred successfully.
A single Ruddy Duck was seen on Richardson and a Black Redstart resided around the Marsh Farm car park for 2 days. Water Rail are resident this winter on Johnsons, Harris and Richardson.
